fountain arts is chuffed to host ‘Owning Identity’ the first solo exhibition by Sarah Felis.
Through the lens of psychology and sociology, Sarah spotlights queer identity as a renewed backlash threatens hard-earned gains for the community. Using digital photography they and a variety of models have created bold, colourful portraits which ask us to consider the ways in which our own identity has many parts that come together to create a complex web of what it means to be human.
Each photoshoot is an opportunity to explore the identities we choose and the identities chosen for us, creating a challenging series affirming Sarah’s belief that sex assigned at birth is equivalent to gender. Placing both masculine and feminine side by side, they achieved this by playing with gender expression, particularly for the non-binary models.
